It’s unfortunate when a tooth suffers from such severe decay or damage that it must be extracted to prevent further complications. Once your gums have healed Boise Dental Center - Michael Smith, DMD & Evan Smith, DMD might recommend having the extracted tooth completely restored by a dental implant.
In some cases, when a tooth is extracted it takes with it some of the surrounding bone structure. If this is the cases, we might recommend that you have a bone graft inserted into the area to restore sufficient structure to mount an implant.
Once any bone structure issues have been addressed, Boise Dental Center - Michael Smith, DMD & Evan Smith, DMD can commence with the process of installing the implant.
Receiving the initial implant requires you to be sedated. After the procedure, you will need a friend or family member to drive you home.
Installing the implant requires a small channel to be made in your jaw bone. Then a titanium implant abutment is screwed into the channel. Titanium is known for being biologically safe and in time the titanium implant will fuse with your natural bone structure.
Once your gums have healed and the implant has become fully integrated into your jaw, your Boise Dental Center - Michael Smith, DMD & Evan Smith, DMD dentist will create an impression of the abutment. This will be sent to a dental lab that produces a crown that will fully restore the function and appearance of the extracted tooth.
If you have had a tooth extracted due to severe decay, fracture or crack, you should call Boise Dental Center - Michael Smith, DMD & Evan Smith, DMD at 208-343-4986 to schedule an appointment to restore the tooth with a dental implant.
